Charity Concert & Blessing at the Syrian Orthodox Church in Vienna
Based on a report by Elisabeth Seidel & Renate Amesbauer
On 29th of September we organized a Charity Concert to support Syrian refugee families and share the Blessing with them.
In the past five years we have conducted two charity events for the Syrian Orthodox community; the latest one featuring soprano Seiko Lee. This has been possible thanks to the foundation Elisabeth Seidel and her late husband Dietrich have laid by keeping in touch with this church and teaching about family values for many years.
The wonderful program was a compilation of musical talents of the Syrian community and the “Vienna Peace Choir” of the FFWPU as well as some soloists. Several VIPs from the Vienna city council participated, as well as the chair of the “Oriental Christians in Austria”, a journalist and a Catholic nun, who is famous for her Pro-Family and Pro-Live activities.
Mrs. Elisabeth Cook, the president of the Austrian Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) movement, gave a presentation about family values and the purpose of the Family Federation. Her speech was followed by the Syrian-orthodox priest of that parish who explained the importance of the family based on the biblical teachings.
At the end of the program Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) President Renate Amesbauer briefly explained the Blessing ceremony and the vows. The holy juice had been prepared in small glasses and distributed on each dining table for everybody to toast to Family and Peace before starting their dinner.
Thanks to the investment of the chair of the church council of the Syrian Orthodox parish in Vienna who also serves as a local politician in the Conservative Party who made the event possible.
